Heritage breeds on Hill Country ground

Our Story
Deadwood Ranch sits on 52 acres in Harper, Texas, in the heart of Gillespie County. We raise registered Miniature Hereford cattle, heritage poultry, and draft horses the way they were meant to be raised: on open pasture with room to graze and grow.
This is not a hobby operation or a weekend getaway. It is a working ranch built on sweat, fence posts, and a deep respect for the land and the animals that live on it.
What We Raise
Every animal on Deadwood Ranch serves a purpose. We select for temperament, hardiness, and breed integrity.
Registered Cattle
Our primary herd. Registered Miniature Herefords bred for conformation, gentle temperament, and efficiency on smaller acreage. All the beef qualities of a full-size Hereford in a frame that thrives on Hill Country pasture.
Equine
Draft horses bring a work ethic and presence that no machine can match. Our Belgian gelding, Farfencugle, is a cornerstone of the operation and a reminder that some things are better done the old way.
Heritage Poultry
Hardy, productive, and built for Texas heat. Our Pekin flock provides eggs and natural pest control across the property while requiring minimal intervention.
Heritage Poultry
A dual-purpose German breed known for auto-sexing chicks, cold hardiness, and a calm disposition. Excellent layers that forage well and hold their own on a working ranch.
The Property
Fifty-two acres of Gillespie County hill country. Rolling terrain, native grasses, live oak, and mesquite. The kind of ground that tests you and rewards the effort. Harper sits between Fredericksburg and Junction on Highway 290, where the Hill Country still looks like it did a hundred years ago.
